A bodybuilding journey - Water Depletion + 36°C at 24 Hours Out

Today must have been one of the hottest days in town - a typhoon looming at the outer oceans with little current to dissipate heat, the mercury recorded a scorchingly scary 36°C. Our government, out of duty, advises "drinking plenty of water and avoiding over exertion" when out and about.

However today is the day when I cannot take in too much water as well as the very last day of (always) over exertion on the body - well that's a dilemma... Health wellness or physical wellness?

The day started, in addition to the 10 egg whites as usual, with a great starchy breakfast of unrestricted (yes, I did chow down breaks after breaks of that freshly-baked baguette!) bread and fruit to kick start again the carbs loading process again - something I have not had for quite some time. Energised I set out for the very last gym (I seem to have always said last - well this one is it!) with light pumps of 20-30reps on every body part. Today the purpose has shifted from muscle glycogen depletion to muscle tone/definition. Also thankfully found some time to practise the free posing and caught a little some suntan in this rather hazy day as well.

And with much furore - ta-da! - I started water depletion at 1pm. That's it. Just don't drink any water. Isn't that easy enough?

Turns out.... it's definitely not easy! At such hot weather one's body overheats rather easily; and perspiration is the way to cool off. Water depletion means minerals such as potassium, sodium and calcium cannot be transported to muscle cells effectively. Cramps follow.

In full expectation of this, therefore, my schedule circled around aircond places (the gym is one!) and I bought some Span-K (potassium chloride) for the hopefully avoidable cramps. I even slept the afternoon off trying to conserve energy.

At mealtime I took a long stare at this from my fridge:

This, ladies and gentlemen, is iced Kyoho grapes - simply the king of grapes in its unique way. (Not the Chinese-produced subtype which I can say with regret are seeded, less juicy and less sweet. These real ones from Japan are exactly like those I enjoyed so much at Tokyo) At such scruffiness I must thank my foresight at having prepared such gratifying delicacy. Without much thought I downed the juicy succulent grapes with great satisfaction.

But hang on a sec... Isn't that... water?

Frantically I went online to check whether fructose should be avoided at this stage. Nothing specific here really though. Some even say simple sugar is good. Oh well... It's been done now anyway. Let's hope for the best. One thing is for sure, though: these expensive grapes are well worth the money and I heartily recommend them - remember to get the real deal!

Tonight will see my weighing in. Clocked at an unbelievably high 191lbs (86.8kg) this morning before I started depleting water. What would the scale say tonight? We shall find out soon enough.
