The Apple Army Matches On

Another article saying why you should switch to Apple and kiss goodbye to Micro$oft. I must say Apple's ads really play a mesmerising trick and can indulge readers on the unique Apple experience as easily as a fine, soothing red wine inside a candle-lit restaurant on a cool Saturday night with your dear lover. Further momentum comes with my friend's experience as an avid OSX user with his iBook for more than a year now, and has been urging me ever since to switch to the Apple heaven like him...

Well then. To switch or not to switch, that's the question...

Facebook

Today I started (yet another) friendship networking website - Facebook. Everyone is fainting on how cool and wicked it is; but then, I suppose, everyone thinks that things like Friendster, Ringo, Yahoo, LiveJournal, Multiply etc. are cool when they come out. And what do I get? I have stagnant accounts hitting the roof before I realise they're even there.

But hey, this one looks promising - already there're cool widgets/boxes that drew my attention. As a programmer I can't help but think how they manage their vast database, seems like they're doing a good job of it though.

Let me get through the maze and give you more of an update - that is, not here, probably ;-)

iPod Fatso

Apple have just released the new iPod series and placed a heavy bet that people would want to watch their holidays / graduation / blockbuster pirates on-the-go. Videos, surely, are to be viewed with the magic square form factor of 16x9 right? Therefore wide screens can now be found for all varieties, be it iPod 'Nano'/Classic/Touch.

I haven't tried any of these yet. But there is one thing I wonder: surely there are still people in Apple who remember the whole point of introducing the iPod Nano (rather than sticking with a normal iPod): its small size. Given the immense popularity and success of the Nano, the same people should also appreciate that the Nano's clean and slim aesthetics is the whole selling point and call for a halt/review to something like this big mama rather than rolling out some battery-sucking memory-gorging joggers-unfriendly (imagine how you could strap it) video player?

Would you prefer the fat boy or the old stuff?

On the other hand, the iPod Touch is a very sleek black horse. An expensive one, too (US$75/GB for 8G iPod Touch compared to $3.1/GB for 80G iPod Classics). The intro video is just like the iPhone's. Very attractive, maybe I would buy one if the reviews are good:

Someone suggested a 160GB iPod Touch, with a nice sleek photo proof that it has seriously been contended. Yeah, serious. Really.
